Jenrry Mejia, the youngest Met starter since Dwight Gooden, allowed four runs in five innings Saturday, as the Mets lost 5-3 to the Cubs, and dropped to 1-4 on the road trip. He surrendered eight hits, two walks and struck out two.

Manuel: Reyes injury 'pretty much the same'

Jose Reyes (right oblique strain) has not played since Aug. 27, and Jerry Manuel Friday described the shortstop as "pretty much the same. . . . With him, it's one of those things that's just a slow-healing thing. I don't know how long that's going to be."

Mets still say Santana shoulders pec injury

The Mets continue to label John Santana's injury a pectoral strain, and say it is not severe. The problem forced the lefthander to leave Thursday's game after throwing 65 pitches. A person close to Santana confirmed Friday that the ace initially complained about his shoulder before leaving the game.

R.A. Dickey's professional career began with a loss of more than $700,000. Fourteen years later, the pitcher might finally have earned a multi-year contract. According to a source, the Mets are willing to engage in extension talks with Dickey this offseason, in lieu of salary arbitration or a one-year deal.
